The Artists statement: "The thematised loss of one’s self and indetermination surface as symptoms of our times from which the artist cannot withdraw himself. Not even with artistic means is he able to hide his doubts and dilemmas and he doesn't even want to. He himself is saturated by the spirit of the time of the western world and the simultaneous existence of different realities and their interpretations." Csaba Fazakas |
CSABA FAZAKAS fine artist started his studies in Marosvásárhely (Targu-Mures, Romania), where he acquired basics, professional crafts of painting, graphic and pottery art as a high school student. Later he perfected his knowledge by learning from chosen masters privately: Mircia Dumitrescu in Bucharest at in the end of the 1970-ies, Arnulf Rainer and Adolf Frohner in Vienna - after the political changes - between 1990-1992.
He is an intellectual artist with an experimenter temperament, who deliberately draws on vanguard traditions of the 20th century. Despite his early art experiments (installations, performances, etc.), he is committed to panel painting. Although his pastels - irregular diptychs - were yet created in the mark of abstraction, Csaba Fazakas has never given up figurative representation. His art is characterised by anthropocentricity, sensibility for individual and social problems and at the same time a special timelessness and universality.
He intends to deepen his knowledge by scientific methodology. In his practice he applies university studies, he carried out the last ten years. Besides social pedagogy he experimented with new methods of art therapy. His admiration of expressive phrasing and art brut is prevailed in his new works as well.
Application of strong gestures and fine fractures, on reduced to almost black and white colouring, assign a dramatic feeling to his art.
Csaba Fazakas has been an exhibitor artist for 30 years. The public could see his paintings on several individual and group exhibitions from Bucharest to Budapest, from Vienna to Tokyo.
